Using 6 wire Configuration
The
Smartstart
®
6000
can
be
configured
to
operate
in
6
wire
mode.
6
wire
mode
may
be
the
preferred
method
due
to:
1.
Possible
reduction
in
the
size
of
starter
required,
saving
on
space
and
/or
cost.
2.
Wiring
may
already
be
present
if
a
start/delta
type
starter
was
previously
used.
3.
Reduced
motor
cable
size.
The
major
advantage
is
that
the
current
in
the
SCR
is
58%
less
than
it
would
be
for
the
same
motor
connected
in
3
wire.
The
diagram
below
illustrates
how
the
motor
is
connected
in
6
wire,
also
known
as
inside
delta.
The
following
illustrates
the
difference
between
3
wire
&
6
wire
connection:
Current
Monitoring
&
Torque
Control:
For
the
torque
control
to
operate
correctly
the
C.T’s
need
to
monitor
the
‘line’
current
and
not
the
‘Phase’
currents.
For
this
reason
the
C.T’s
normally
supplied
internally,
need
to
be
relocated
external
to
the
soft
starter.
It
is
critical
that
the
C.T’s
be
installed
in
the
correct
phase
and
in
the
correct
direction.
Page
12
provides
instructions
as
to
where
the
C.T’s
are
to
be
located.

page

In
some
cases
the
CT’s
can
be
internal.
