Timeline Menus
Two types of master timeline keyframes exist. Those from timelines that are
delegated for editing are solid (edit keyframes). Those created from time-
lines that are not delegated for editing are colored cyan (time keyframes).
Conceptually, there are actually two timelines superimposed on one
another, the edit timeline and the time (or run) timeline. Effect editing oper-
ations are based on the edit timeline, with editing rules affected only by
edit keyframes. Time keyframes and the run timeline are ignored during
effect editing. All keyframes are numbered on the master timeline, how-
ever, not just the edit keyframes.
Cursors are used to indicate specific locations in the effect. Two cursors
exist, associated to the
Edit Crsr
and
Time Crsr
buttons on the Master E-MEM
Effects Edit subpanel. The edit cursor is colored orange, and spans all the
timelines in the effect. Individual time cursors exist for each timeline, and
are colored yellow. The time cursors can be located at different locations on
different levels. When
Edit Crsr
is selected the two cursors are joined and
move together through the effect. When
Time Crsr
is selected different con-
trols will move the cursors independently. Effect navigation controls move
the edit cursor, while the effect run controls move the time cursor(s). The
edit cursor determines where edit operations will occur. The work buffer is
interpolated from each time cursor location.
Additional information is displayed on the Timeline-Edit menu in special
cases:
•
If a timeline’s effect is different from the master timeline, its number is
displayed to the right of the timeline name.
•
If the timeline’s start time is not zero, a negative start time is displayed
numerically to the left of the timeline.
•
If the timeline’s last keyframe is not at the end of the effect, the end time
is displayed numerically to the right of the timeline.
When you edit an effect using the Main panel Master E-MEM controls, the
Timeline menu shows your exact location in the effect and what levels will
be affected. As changes are made the effect information on the menu is
rapidly updated. For example, inserted keyframes will appear, moving the
later keyframes to the right the duration of the inserted keyframes.
Changing the duration of a keyframe will move all the affected keyframes
on the timeline to reflect their new locations in the effect.
Note
Effect editing procedures are covered in the separate
Kalypso User Manual.
