Mattes Subpanel

The Mattes subpanel is used to control the Kalypso system’s 58 Matte gen-
erators. Mattes can be used in backgrounds, in the borders of keys and 
wipes, to edge preset patterns, and as matte fill.

A matte fill can be either a solid color, or can be divided by a pattern or edge 
derived from a video signal. When undivided, the flat matte is described 
by one color or video signal called the Base Fill. When divided (a wash 
matte), two fills must be specified (the Base Fill plus the Wash Fill). In addi-
tion, the source of the division must be specified by the wash source 
buttons and knobs in the Wash Geometry group. Each fill can be either a 
matte color generated internally, or video can be used which is supplied by 
one of M/E's utility buses. Softness, wipe pattern generators, and other 
controls are available to adjust how the colors or images blend with one 
another.
