5.3.9 Piece Counting
Applies to PT620 and PT630.
Piece counting can be done by sampling or by entering the average piece weight (APW) of the material.
The check-weighing and classifying EZAZ applications can be active during piece counting for easy
use. The weight display indicates the quantity during piece counting.
Note:
If you will be entering average piece weight manually or if you will record APW values into the
APW memory, the second function key should be programmed for APW entry which is APW at
parameter 6.3.4.
RELATED PARAMETERS: Parameters 6.3.4

and
[242]
.
The PT620 and PT630 indicators have a number of powerful features for counting parts by weight as
described in this section. Use the
<
☼
>
key for piece counting, and the
<APW>
key (6.3.4.2) for APW
(average piece weight) entry, if either APW entry or APW memory will be used.
Start piece counting
1. Press the
<
☼
>
key to enter piece counting operation. The last used average piece weight (APW)
value will still be valid for counting.
2. Or press the
<
☼
>
key more than 2 seconds to start piece counting from sampling.
3. Or press the
<APW>
key to start from average piece weight entry.
Exit from piece counting
1. Press the
<
☼
>
key.
Sampling
The scale counts the pieces on it by using the calculated average piece weight (APW) of the item. In
sampling, the indicator measures the total weight of a certain number of the pieces in very high
resolution and divides it by the number of pieces (the so-called sampling quantity) to find the average
piece weight (APW). Based on this calculated average piece weight, counting can then be carried out
for any quantity. The accuracy of piece counting is depending on the APW accuracy which can be
improved by calculating from a higher quantity sample.
Note:
Sampling should be done very carefully for correct counting.
