Safety Advice
Before putting the machine into operation, read the
operator`s manual and follow the safety precautions.
This safety alert symbol is used throughout this
manual to inform you of the possibility of personal
injury. Also pass on the safety precautions to any
other users of the machine.
Correct Use
The PÖTTINGER ROTARY SWATHER is designed solely for
use in customary agricultural operations ("intended use").
The swather is designed and intended for use in cutting
stem crops growing on the ground!
Use in any other way is considered as contrary to the
intended use. The manufacturer accepts no liability for any
damage or injury resulting from this misuse and these risks
must be born solely by the user.
Compliance with and strict adherence to the conditions of
operation, service and repair as specified by the manufactu-
rer also constitute essential elements for the intended use.
The PÖTTINGER ROTARY SWATHER should be operated,
serviced and repaired only by persons familiar with all its
particular characteristics and acquainted with the relevant
safety rules (accident prevention).
The accident prevention regulations, all other generally
recognized regulations on safety and occupational medici-
ne and the road traffic regulations must be observed at all
times.
Any arbitrary modifications carried out on the machine will
relieve the manufacturer of all liability for any resulting
damage or injury.
General Safety and Accident Prevention
Regulations
Basic Rule:
Always check the operating and road safety of tractor and
machine before starting up.
General:
In addition to the instructions contained in this operator`s
manual, also observe the general safety and accident pre-
vention regulations.
The warning and instruction signs on the machine provi-
de important recommendations for safe operation. These
instructions involve your safety - observe them at all times.
Always comply with local traffic regulations when driving on
public roads.
Before starting work, familiarize yourself with all the controls
and instruments and their functions. During work or road
travel it is too late!
Clothing worn by the operator must be close-fitting. Avoid
wearing loose jackets, shirts or ties.
No riders are allowed on the machine during operation and
during transport.
Always connect the implement correctly to the tractor and
connect and secure the machine to the prescribed cou-
plings.
Always place the jack in the appropriate position when hit-
ching and unhitching the machine (stability).
Use special care when hitching the machine to the tractor
and when unhitching the machine.
Observe the maximum permissible axle loads and total
weights.
Observe the permissible transport lengths, widths and
heights.
Check and mount transport equipment such as lights, war-
ning devices and, if required, guards, shields etc.
Operating devices (ropes, chains, linkages, etc.) of remotely
controlled mechanisms must be positioned in such a way
that they do not trigger unintentional operation in any trans-
port or operating position.
For road transport, prepare the machine and lock any
moving parts as prescribed by the manufacturer.
Never leave the operator`s platform when driving.
Always adapt your ground speed to the ground conditions.
Avoid making sharp turns when driving up or down slopes or
when driving across the slope.
The operating, steering and braking behaviour will be affec-
ted by the trailed machine. Therefore ensure adequate stee-
ring and braking power.
When making turns, always take into consideration the width
and/or inertia of the implement.
Operate the machine only when all guards are fitted and in
the correct position.
Ensure that all persons stand clear of the operating area of
the machine. Safety hazard! Ensure that everybody keeps
a safe distance away from the machine. Avoid injury from
flying objects.
Do not remain in the turning and/or slewing area of the
machine.
Beware of pinch and shear points on parts that are operated,
for instance, by hydraulics or other sources.
Before leaving the tractor, ensure that the implement can-
not roll away. Lower any mounted implements fully to the
ground. Shut off the engine and remove the ignition key.
No-one must be allowed to stand between the tractor and
the machine before the parking brake of the vehicle is
applied and/or wheel chocks are used to prevent the unit
from moving and rolling away.
Mounted machines
Before attaching the machines to or detaching the machine
from the 3-point linkage, move the control lever to a position
in which unintentional raising or lowering is not possible.
When attaching mounted machines to the 3-point linkage,
the linkage categories of tractor and machine must corres-
pond or the necessary modifications must be performed.
A risk of injury due to crushing or shearing exists in the vici-
