The zinc anodes installed on your Krogen 58’, provided by Canada Pacific Metals, meet
or exceed military specification MIL-A-18001K, the accepted authority of both the
United States and Canadian governments and will properly and adequately protect your
vessel against galvanic corrosion in salt, fresh and brackish water. That being said, if you
find you are spending considerable time in fresh or brackish waters, and anode corrosion
is more than expected, you may want to consider magnesium or aluminum anodes the
next time anode replacement is needed.
Anodes (of any material) should
NEVER be painted.
Once a year, inspect all bonding wire and connections and repair as needed.

®
Galvanic Isolators normally requires no maintenance. However, if you
suspect an Isolator is not performing satisfactorily, follow the Troubleshooting procedure
as outlined in the NewMar
® I nstallation Guide.
CAUTION
USE OF MAGNESIUM ANODES
Magnesium anodes are for use in FRESH WATER ONLY. Magnesium anodes
should NEVER be used in saltwater or brackish water, where accelerated anode
corrosion could damage expensive engine parts.
CAUTION
USE OF ALUMINUM ANODES
Aluminum anodes are more active than zinc anodes and are a good compromise
if your home port or cruising itineraries take you into the brackish water, for
example, river deltas. In brackish waters, zinc is too passive and magnesium
corrodes too rapidly (because of salt water content), leaving your vessel without
adequate protection.
CAUTION
NEVER MIX ANODES
Whichever anode material you select, NEVER mix anodes of different materials.
When anodes of two different materials are used, the least noble will protect the
other which will then not be doing its job.
