Head. The red lights on the Control Head will become solid and the low repetition tone
will cease, indicating this remote station has command.
Operation
The Control Head has three detents, or stops: Astern, Neutral and Ahead . Refer to
Figure 2, page 4 of the ZF Marine Operation & Installation Manual. With the Control
Head in the Neutral (vertical) detent, the transmission will be in Neutral and the engine at
idle rpm. Movement of the Control Head 15 degrees to the Ahead or Astern detent will
command Ahead or Astern clutch engagement while the engine remains at idle rpm.
Further movement of the Control Head lever will increase the engine rpm.
Station Transfer
Each station is independent and only one station will have command at a time. Solid red
lights on the Control Head housing indicate which station is in Command.
To transfer command from one station to the other, you should do the following:
1. Leave the Control Head lever at the station currently in command (the station
you are leaving) at the last command position.
2. Go to the station that will receive command and position both Control Head
levers to the
Neutra l detent and press the station transfer button.
3. You will then have ONE SECOND after the red light becomes solid to position
the Control Head levers to the approximate position of the previous station levers.
A smooth transfer of command has been accomplished without interruption of
speed.
Control Head Tones
There are six distinct patterns of Control Head tone:

Low Repetition Tone is norma l when DC power is first applied to the system.
This tone indicates that the system initialization has occurred and you can accept
command at any station.
•
High Repetition Tone signals a jam condition of either the Shift or Throttle
cable. The Actuator has stopped when this tone occurs. Moving the Control Head
lever away from the position at which the tone began will usually stop the tone.
The cause needs investigation . Refer to Appendix B in the “ZF Marine
Operation & Installation Manual”.

Steady Tone signals a voltage problem or that a component has failed. Depress
the station transfer button. If the tone continues, the actuator or circuit board may
require service. Refer to Appendix B in the “ZF Marine Operation & Installation
Manual”.
•
Repetitive Signal – One Long, One Short Tone signals a Shift position
feedback error. Refer to Appendix B in the “ZF Marine Operation & Installation
Manual”.
