Lowering the anchor
To
lower
the anchor under
power
:
1.
Insert
the crank lever into the clutch nut and check that the clutches are tightened
down firmly by turning the nut
clockwise.
2.
Remove the lever.
3.
Check
that the chainstopper is open and the pawl is disengaged from the
chainwheel. Refer to page 42 in the Maxwell “Owners Manual”.
4.
After ensuring
the clutches are tightened down and the chainstopper and pawl
are disengaged, the anchor may lowered by using either the “
DOWN
” footswitch
or the “
DOWN
” position at either remote control station.
5.
Lower slowly
as anchor may swing and hit the Bow. Hold the button “DOWN”
until the required amount of rode is out.
Stand well clear.
6.
Secure
the anchor rode to a cleat or a bridle used to take the strain.
DO NOT
leave the rode on the Windlass.
7.
Turn
OFF
the circuit breaker on the 24V DC NAV./COM. Electronics Panel in
the Pilothouse labeled ‘
BOW THRUSTER WINDLASS
’.
To
lower
the anchor
manually:
1.
Insert
the crank lever into the clutch nut and check that the clutches are tightened
down firmly by turning the nut
clockwise.
2.
Remove the lever.
3.
Check
that the chainstopper is open and the pawl is disengaged from the
chainwheel.
4.
Standing well clear
,
insert
crank lever into the clutch nut.
5.
Slowly
back off
the clutch nut. This will release the chain.
6.
Regulate
the speed at which the chain goes out by tightening the nut to slow, or
easing the nut to increase the speed.
CAUTION
When the circuit breaker is ON, the system can be activated from either the
footswitch or the remote control stations which can be out of sight of the crew
and could ultimately cause injury if the crew is unaware. When the system is not
being used, turn the circuit breaker to OFF.
WARNING
When using the Windlass DO NOT SWITCH IMMEDIATELY FROM ONE
DIRECTION TO THE OTHER WITHOUT WAITING FOR THE WINDLASS
TO STOP.
This could damage the Windlass and abuse is NOT covered by Warranty.
CAUTION
DO NOT ALLOW the chainwheel to free wheel as this will allow dangerously
high chain speeds to build up.
