Propeller Shaft Assembly Basic Service and Maintenance
The Tides Shaft Seal is essential maintenance free. Should the seal need to be replaced,
detailed instructions for seal replacement and hose are included in each Tides Marine
STRONG® Spare Seal Carrier. Refer to the Spare Parts List for part numbers.
Propeller Removal
There is a large nut with a safety tab and a bolt, approximately 2” long (5 cm), holding
the propeller in place. The large nut has slots at the tapered end to accept the safety tab.
The 2” bolt is threaded directly
into the propeller shaft.
To remove the large nut from the propeller shaft holding the propeller, first remove the 2”
bolt using a 9/16” wrench and then the safety tab followed by the large nut.
Turn the nut
in the same direction as the propeller turns when the transmission gear is in
FORWARD.
When installing the propeller, always make sure the safety tab ends are bent Forward to
secure the large nut from being able to spin off.
WARNING
When ordering spare seals from Tides Marine, order BOTH the seal and the
hose. The proper seal and hose are based on several measurements that must be
followed.
