When the required amount of chain is out, tighten the clutch nut firmly.

Remove the lever
.
9.
Secure
the anchor rode to a cleat or a bridle used to take the strain.
DO NOT
leave the rode on the Windlass.
Raising the anchor
To
raise
the anchor under
power
:
1.
Insert
the crank lever into the clutch nut and check that the clutches are tightened
down firmly by turning the nut
clockwise.
2.
Remove the lever.
3.
After ensuring
the clutches are tightened down, the anchor may be raised by
using either the “
UP
” footswitch or the “
UP
” position at either remote control
station. Hold the button “
UP
” until the required amount of rode has been brought
in.
4.
It is
not necessary
to disengage the pawl or open the chainstopper to operate the
windlass in the “
UP
” direction.
5.
Secure
the anchor in the roller.
6.
When anchor is secure in the roller, turn
OFF
the
‘BOW THRUSTER
WINDLASS’
circuit breaker
.
To
raise
the anchor
manually:
1.
Check
that the chainstopper is engaged.
2.
Insert
the crank lever into the clutch nut and
release
clutches by backing off the
clutch in a counterclockwise direction.
3.
Insert
the crank lever into the emergency crank collar, pin end first, with pin
uppermost, until the pin engages with one of the dogs in the chainwheel in the
furthermost counterclockwise position. Refer to page 42 in the Maxwell “Owners
Manual”.
4.
Take off
the weight by pulling the crank lever in a clockwise direction as far as
possible at the same time bringing in the chain.
TIP
An anchor bridle can sometimes be effective in keeping the boat from weaving
from side to side at anchor. The bridle is made of approximately 20 ft. of 5/8”
three strand nylon with a galvanized thimble in the middle and spliced loops at
each end. The loops attach to the Port and Starboard Bow cleats and the thimble
is shackled to the anchor chain a few feet down from where it leaves the Bow
pulpit. This arrangement relieves the stress on the Bow pulpit from the tension of
the anchor chain. An added benefit is the absence of anchor chain noise.
CAUTION
Do Not depend on the Windlass to hold the anchor in its bow roller. A proper
line, such as nylon, should be used to secure the anchor into its stowed position
when underway and will need to be removed before operation of the Windlass.
