Fresh Water System
Krogen 58’ Manual, Hull 58014
106
Disconnect in the Pilothouse.
The Mach5 fresh water pump is made operational by
turning
ON
the circuit breaker labeled ‘
FRESH WATER PUMP’
located on the
120/240V AC Distribution Panel No. 1.
Between the XR-124 and Mach5 pumps and the
PT-102 Accumulator Tank is a PGV-100 pressure gauge. The pressure gauge should
normally read between 40-60 psi. If the pressure falls below 35 psi, this generally
indicates a clogged WSA-1000 inlet pump strainer
or
empty water tanks (most likely).
Between the pressure gauge and the ship’s hot and cold plumbing is a Headhunter PT-
102 Accumulator Tank. To maintain sufficient pressure in the system, the Accumulator
Tank automatically activates the selected water pressure pump when a pressure
decrease
is sensed. The PT-102 Accumulator Tank has a capacity of 4.4 gallons (16.6 L). See
Fresh Water System Basic Service and Maintenance below for maintenance on the
Accumulator Tank and the WSA-1000 strainer.
Each pump has an isolation valve on the input and output side. In the event that either the
XR-124 or Mach5 pump needs to be taken offline temporarily, such as for repair, close
the isolation valves of the affected pump. This will isolate the pump needing repair and
provides system redundancy.
Dockside Water Pressure Regulators
Unregulated dockside water pressure found at most marinas can run as high as 100 psi
(689 Mpa), and can damage fresh water connections and fixtures if not regulated down to
a safe 35 psi (241 Mpa). This is the function of the two Jabsco Water Pressure Regulators
which are rated to 100 psi (689 Mpa). One Water Pressure Regulator is located on the Aft
deck, Starboard side, and the other is located on the Bow, Port side. The Fresh Water
Pump circuit breaker
does not need
to be turned
ON
when the vessel is connected
directly to dockside water. Connecting dockside water to the Water Pressure Regulator
does not
fill the fresh water tank. Refer to Figure 15 – Top Down View – Upper Deck for
location of the dockside inlet water pressure regulators.
CAUTION
Turn OFF the Fresh Water Pump when the boat is unattended.
CAUTION
Even with the Water Pressure Regulator DO NOT OPEN DOCKSIDE WATER
SPIGOT MORE THAN TWO TURNS. High pressure from the dockside water,
exceeding 100 psi, could damage the fresh water system.
CAUTION
No water purification devices are installed in the system. Always check quality of
water supply before using. This can be done by several inexpensive and easy to
use products on the market.
