12.
Turn
ON
the 12V DC and 24V DC Electronic Panels.
After performing the above, continue with the following:
1.
Open the fuel supply shut-off valves for each engine.
2.
Position
fuel supply and return valves
to selected tank.
3.
The ZF Mathers MicroCommander Engine Controls are designed to prevent
engine starting until:
•
Power is
ON
(the system is
energized).
•
The Control Heads are in
Neutral
.
•
A remote station is
in command
.
4.
Energize the ZF Mathers Engine Controls by turning
ON
the circuit breakers
labeled ‘
ENGINE CONTROL (L
)’ and ‘
ENGINE CONTROL (R)
’, on the
24V DC NAV./COM. Electronics Panel in the Pilothouse.
5.
Position both Control Heads in
Neutral.
6.
Accept command
at any station by positioning the Command Head levers to the
Neutral position and
depressing
the station transfer button at the base of the
Control Head. The red lights on the Control Head will become solid and the low
repetition tone will cease, indicating this remote station has command.
7.
Select which engine to start first.
8.
Turn the key switch to ‘
ON
’ position.
9.
The ‘Wait to Start Preheating’ message will be displayed. Wait until the
countdown has reached
0.00
before starting the engine.
10.
Firmly depress and hold
‘START’
button in until engine starts. Release button as
soon as engine starts.
DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE FOR MORE THAN
30 SECONDS AT A TIME.
If the engine does not start the first time, wait at
least
two minutes
before trying again. If it does not start after four attempts, see
Troubleshooting Section, page 50-18 in John Deere “Operations and Service
Manual”. If the start button is released before the engine starts, wait until the
starter and the engine stop turning before trying again.
11.
Observe the Oil Pressure Gauge until it reads 138 kPa (1.38 bar) (20 psi).
12.
Check exhaust pipe for proper
water flow discharge
. If discharge does not flow
within
ONE
minute, stop engine and check raw water intake sea cock, raw water
strainer, and sea water pump for restrictions.
13.
Allow the engine to warm up at or below
1200 rpm
, no load for 1-2 minutes.
14.
Check all gauges for normal engine operation. If operation is not normal, stop the
engine and determine the cause.
15.
Observe engine
coolant temperature gauge.
Normal engine coolant operating
temperature range is 176ºF – 202ºF (80ºC – 94ºC).
DO NOT
place engine under
full load until engine is operating within that range.
CAUTION
NEVER close the return valve when engine is running.
