Complete the following fields:

Description

Field

Specify a retention profile that includes minimum,
maximum, and default retention periods that specify
how long a file must be retained.

NOTE:

Enabling data retention is irreversible.

Enable Data Retention

Two modes exist:

Retention Mode

•

Enterprise mode

. Allows the expiration date of the

retention period to be extended to a later date.

•

Relaxed mode

. Allows the expiration date of the

retention period to be moved in or extended to a
later date.

The shortest retention period that can be assigned to a
file. If you set a shorter retention period for a retained
file, the expiration time of the period is adjusted to match
the minimum retention period.

Minimum Retention Period

The longest retention period that can be assigned to a
file. If you set a longer retention period for a retained
file, the expiration time of the period is adjusted to match
the maximum retention period.

Maximum Retention Period

The default retention period determines whether you
can manage WORM (non-retained) files, as well as
WORM-retained files. (WORM [non-retained] files can
be deleted at any time; WORM-retained files can be
deleted only after the file's retention period has expired.)

To manage only WORM-retained files, set the default
retention period to a non-zero value. WORM-retained
files then use this period by default; however, you can
assign a different retention period, if desired.

To manage both WORM (non-retained) and
WORM-retained files, clear

Set Default Retention Period

The default retention period is then set to 0 seconds.
After you make a WORM file retained, you will need
to assign a retention period to the file.

Set Default Retention Period

Files that are not changed during this period
automatically become WORM or WORM-retained when
the period expires. (If the default retention period is set
to zero, the files become WORM. If the default retention
period is set to a value greater than zero, the files
become WORM-retained.) The auto-commit period is
optional and should not be set if you want to keep
normal files in the file system.

Set Auto-Commit Period

Optionally, select these options to enable and schedule
periodic scans on the file system. Use the default
schedule, or click

Modify

to specify your own schedule.
