FASTCNFG DEVICE Attributes for All FASTPTCP
Devices
For other protocols, the PORT specification is mandatory.
For AWAN servers and other terminal servers, the port number is usually specified
as a value between 2001 and 2064 corresponding to the physical asynchronous
ports of 1 to 64.
Optional DEVICE Attributes for All FASTPTCP Devices
The optional DEVICE attributes for all FASTPTCP devices are defined as follows:
BLOCK =
blocksize
specifies the block size to be used by FASTPTCP for I/O operations. Block size is
a performance attribute; in some cases a larger block size than the default can
provide for more efficient transfers. The maximum value is 28672 bytes. The
BLOCK specification is optional. In the absence of the BLOCK attribute,
FASTPTCP assigns a value based on the Spoolcom DEV DEVTYPE value. For
example, 5515 printers are assigned a block size equal to their buffer size, and
HPJETDIRECT printers are assigned a value of 1024. Note that a BLOCK value of
1480 works for most network-accessed printer configurations
IDLETIMEOUT =
idle-timeout
for printers configured with the Spoolcom DEV attribute EXCLUSIVE ON, the
IDLETIMEOUT attribute determines the number of seconds to wait before clearing
the session and closing the socket. IDLETIMEOUT allows FASTPTCP to maintain
TCP/IP sessions for short periods of inactivity but to dissolve them during longer
periods. The IDLETIMEOUT specification is optional. If omitted or set to zero,
FASTPTCP keeps the TCP/IP session open until notified by the Spooler supervisor
to close the device.
KEEPALIVE = YES | NO
Default NO. If YES, activates TCP socket keepalive. This attribute is rarely
needed, but might be useful for an HP external print server with extended stacker
full condition.
SHADOW[n] =
shadow-file-namen...
is a required attribute if tracing is enabled (that is, if bit 1 (%40000) of the PARM
attribute is set using the Spoolcom DEV command). Each value specified defines
the Guardian file name of a Guardian file used for trace output. If a file name is not
fully qualified, the volume and subvolume name default to the volume and
subvolume where the object code for the FASTPTCP print process resides. From 1
to 8 trace files can be defined.
Tracing is discussed in
Section 8, Troubleshooting and Using the Trace Facility
.
Note.
Although the TIMEOUT attribute specification is optional, it should be changed if any
problems occur.
