Considerations for Xerox Printers
CONTROL, CONTROLBUF, and SETMODE
Considerations for Xerox Printers
The CONTROL, CONTROLBUF, and SETMODE considerations for Xerox 4050
printers are the same as those described in
Using the CONTROL, CONTROLBUF, and
SETMODE Operations
on page 2-27 with the following exceptions:
CONTROLBUF Operations
CONTROLBUF operations are used to perform device-dependent I/O operations. The
following CONTROLBUF operation values have special meanings for FASTPXPNS:
CONTROLBUF 100 — Alternative Start Print Command
CONTROLBUF 100 is used to enable FASTPXNS to send an alternative Start Print
command to Xerox 4050 printers. See
Xerox Start Print Command Considerations
on
page 7-19 for more information.
CONTROLBUF 112 — Special Header Pages
CONTROLBUF 112 is used to supply a printing mask to FASTPXNS. This mask can
contain tokens, which FASTPXNS replaces with its own generated text items, and
strings of text to be printed by FASTPXNS. Typically one or more of these
CONTROLBUF 112 mask calls can be embedded in a FONT job in order to create
special header pages.
Text for printing by FASTPXNS is supplied as text within the CONTROLBUF buffer.
Tokens for translation by FASTPXNS are supplied as special two-byte sequences in
the CONTROLBUF buffer. The first byte must be decimal 255 (all bits on). This is
recognized by FASTPXNS as indicating that the next byte contains a token which must
be substituted.
Table 7-5
lists the CONTROLBUF 112 token values (in decimal
notation) that are recognized by FASTPXNS:
Note.
To ensure that a consistent date and time is emitted, tokens 226, 227, 228, 229, 230,
231, 232, 233, 234, and 235 should be contained in a single CONTROLBUF call.
