Before starting any center pin procedure, you need to determine whether

the machine you are working on has hydraulic hoses or tubes. The

quickest and easiest way to make this determination is by looking in

the control valve compartment. Do you see mainly flexible hydraulic

hoses or rigid hydraulic tubes? If you have an older machine with

mainly hydraulic hoses, you should mark the hoses and coinciding fit-

tings on the center pin assembly to make sure you re-connect them

properly.

On later XL Series machines, the rubber hydraulic hoses have been

replaced with metal tubing.

Center pin maintenance on a tube machine requires removing several

of the hydraulic tubes that supply oil to the center pin assembly and

other key areas of the machine. As with a hose machine, mark the

hydraulic lines and coinciding fittings on the upper and lower glands to

make sure you re-connect them properly. Once this is done, you are

ready to disconnect all the hydraulic and air lines.
