Operation
Features
The following is a brief overview of the THJ80 ThermoJet controls and indicators.
System Controller
A PLC and touch screen display provides the user with easy access to all functions
necessary to perform precise temperature testing.
All of the control hardware interfaces and software resides in the PLC. The PLC is located in
an electrical box within the base unit, isolated from the high voltage components.
The touch screen is the operator interface to the PLC and is connected by means of a RS232
cable on top of the system. The touch screen is attached to the arm support column when
shipped. It can be detached for remote operation using a standard RS232 serial cable. A
description of the controls and indicators contained in the control module follows.
System Power
The main breaker, located on the upper left corner of the rear grill, controls the electrical
power to all of the ThermoJet components. When OFF (open), the entire system is de-
energized. When ON (closed), the PLC will be energized and the rest of the system will be
powered up to the EMO button (Emergency Mechanical Off). The EMO button is located on
the top left corner of the base unit. Lifting this EMO button will enable the main power to the
touch screen, compressors, heater, solenoid valves, and stepper motor board.
When first delivered, the ThermoJet main breaker will be locked in OFF (Open) position with
the EMO button in the DOWN (Emergency Off) position. After inserting the CPC connector
and connecting the unit to the electrical service, the initial start up is as follows:
1. Ensure compressed air is supplied to the system and the main air inlet valve is open.
2. Lift the EMO button to the UP (Normal Operation) position.
3. Remove the breaker lockout device.
4. Switch the breaker to the ON (Closed) position.
The PLC will automatically go through its initialization sequence, the airflow will start, the
refrigeration will go through its start up sequence, the Manual screen (Figure 9) will be
displayed and the system will go into IDLE Mode.
The IDLE Mode is the ThermoJet base operating mode. When in IDLE mode, the ThermoJet
sets the temperature setpoint to 25°C, the airflow to 5 SCFM, and raises the head (if
applicable). From IDLE Mode, the ThermoJet can start temperature testing in the MANUAL,
PROGRAM or REMOTE modes. The system will remain in an IDLE condition until further
commands are entered.
