The sealed lead acid battery can be stored for up to 1 year but must always be
kept in a charged condition. A periodic topping charge is required to prevent the
open cell voltage from dropping below 2.1 volts/cell or 12.6 volts. If permitted to
self-discharge beyond that critical threshold, sulfation may occur, which can
drastically change the recharge characteristics and negatively affect the life of the
battery. A battery that has been allowed to self-discharge beyond this limit may
require several discharge/charge cycles to bring the battery back to a usable
condition.
If the sealed lead acid battery has been in storage for 2 months or longer,
especially at temperatures above 30°C (86°F), you’ll need to charge the battery
before configuring and using the RM2020.
If you need to store lead acid batteries for an extended period of time, monitor the
voltage periodically and recharge the battery when the open cell voltage is at or
below 2.25 volts per cell or 13.5 volts. For more information on obtaining a battery

Connecting and Disconnecting the Battery Cable
If you need to disconnect or replace the sealed lead acid or lithium battery
installed in the RM2020, disconnect the configuration cable first and then the
battery cable.
When connecting the battery, connect the battery first and then connect the
configuration cable.
Storing and Recharging the Sealed Lead Acid Battery
Storing the sealed lead acid l battery for an extended period of time requires that
you monitor the battery voltage and recharge when necessary.
The sealed lead acid battery must be fully charged prior to installing the unit.
