If you are uncertain about which ORBCOMM GES is closest to the installation
site, use a software program such as Microsoft
®
MapPoint
™
to calculate the
distance between two points using the GPS coordinates of the installation site and
the GPS coordinates of the nearest GES. As an example, if you are installing an
RM2020 in the United States, install the unit so that the antenna has a clear view
of the sky in the direction of the closest GES located in the United States.
Likewise, if you are installing a unit in South America, the antenna should have a
clear view in the direction of the closest GES located in South America. The next
table identifies GPS latitude/longitude (lat/long) coordinates for each
ORBCOMM GES and identifies the ORBCOMM gateway control center (GCC).
Preparing for the Installation
Use the following items as a checklist prior to installing an RM2020.
1 Does the installation area provide enough room to easily open the
enclosure? When you finish the installation, you’ll need to open the
enclosure to configure the unit for service using the UCT software.
2 Is the latest version of the Universal Configuration Toolkit software
installed on the computer you plan to use during the installation? For more
information, see
Universal Configuration Toolkit Software on page 6.
