26 RM2020 Installation
Connecting Input Wires
This section describes how to connect input wiring to the RM2020 input channels.

MPORTANT
:
To ensure a clean, stable reading, keep field wiring as short as
possible to maintain signal integrity and use shielded twisted pair wire such as
Alpha 2463C.
Complete the following steps:
1 If the input device has a voltage output, turn the device OFF to remove
power from field wiring.

:
If the wires from the unit are to be buried or covered, then
you must use conduit to protect the wires.
2 Route input wires through the water-tight fitting on the bottom of the
enclosure and connect to input channels.
a If you are also installing the rectifier interface or test point option kit,
install the option kit using the instructions in the manual that is
provided with the option kit.
b Use the following information to connect the input device in the input
channels on the faceplate (labeled CH1 through CH6). When you
finish, continue with step 4 on page 27.
•
Input Channels 1-4 (Ch1-Ch4): Supports analog (±5V or 4-20mA
with external resistor) and active digital input devices.
• Input Channels 5 and 6 (Ch5, Ch6): Supports digital dry contact
closure or active digital input devices. CH5 can also be used as a
pulse count accumulator, and CH6 can be used as an accumulator
reset or a second pulse count accumulator.
3 If the RM2020 includes the factory-installed rectifier interface option,
complete the following steps:
a Remove the factory-installed shunt on the 2-pin jumper labeled
“100V”. Based on the rectifier output voltage, install the shunt on the 2-
pin jumper labeled 5V, 25V, 50V, or 100V.
