Maintenance of the Avaya G350 Media Gateway

June 2004

Results Evaluation

The technician determines the time of the media gateway outage and then reads the ALT log to find a
similar time. If a trace had been executed, the technician verifies that the IP addresses are the same. If
there is no matching IP address, there may be other addresses representing other Media Gateways on the
same subnet. In this case, the log entries may still be useful in tracking down a potential source of trouble.

H.248 server-to-gateway Link Recovery

The H.248 link between an Avaya server running Avaya Communication Manager Software and the
Avaya Media Gateway provides the signaling protocol for:

•

Call setup

•

Call control (user actions such as Hold, Conference, or Transfer) while the call is in progress

•

Call tear-down

If the link goes down, Link Recovery preserves any existing calls and attempts to re-establish the original
link. If the gateway cannot reconnect to the original server, then Link Recovery automatically attempts to
connect with another server or Local Spare Processor (LSP). Link Recovery does not diagnose or repair
the network failure that caused the link outage.
