Editing MIDI Notes and Velocities
A MIDI clip in Live contains notes and controller data for playing a MIDI instrument. This
instrument can be a virtual instrument in a MIDI track's
device chain
or an external synth
fed via the track's
output routing
. The
MIDI clip
provides the device with a musical score
to play, specifying note pitch, length, position and dynamics (referred to as
velocity
in the
MIDI lexicon). MIDI is composed and edited in Live's MIDI Editor.

Creating an Empty MIDI Clip
MIDI clips are created
by means of
recording
;
or by double-clicking an empty Session slot in a MIDI track;
or by selecting an empty Session slot in a MIDI track and choosing the Create menu's
Insert MIDI Clip command;
or, in the Arrangement View, by selecting a timespan in a MIDI track and choosing the
Create menu's Insert MIDI Clip command.
