IOL calculation after refractive surgery of the cornea (optional)
Before calculating a proposal for an intraocular lens, the corneal
refraction must be determined.
Initiate the calculation by:
Button (IOL calculation) or
<
I
> key.
Then:
Select the tab "Prior refractive surgery".
Note:
This step of operation is necessary only with corneas pretreated
by refractive surgery. With untreated corneas, IOL calculation is
started instantly on selection of the biometric formula (see IOL
calculation).
The corneal refraction is the quantitatively significant factor used in IOL
calculation. Presently, it is impossible to exactly measure the corneal
refraction that was subjected to corneal refractive surgery (e.g. by RK,
PRK, LTK, Lasik or Lasek). That is why the corneal refraction must be
determined in a different way. For this, two methods are available:
q
Refractive History Method and
q
Contact Lens Method.
For the
Refractive History Method
, the following values must be
known:
q
Preoperative corneal refraction (i.e. before the corneal refractive
surgery,
q
Preoperative refraction,
q
Stable postoperative refraction and
q
Corneal vertex distance.
