000000Ć1150Ć839 IOLMaster 11.02.2004
Functional description
The IOLMaster is a combined biometry instrument which measures
parameters of the human eye needed for intraocular lens calculation.
It measures quickly and precisely the following eye parameters:
q
Axial length (distance between tear film and retina; see also page 60)
q
Corneal curvature
q
Anterior chamber depth
q
"WhiteĆToĆWhite" (optional)
All measurements are nonĆcontact measurements providing excellent
patient comfort.
The axial length measurement is based on a patented interference
optical method known as Partial Coherence Interferometry (PCI). The
displayed results of the axial length measurements are comparable to
ultrasonic immersion measurements of axial length via the use of an
internal, statistically verified calculation algorithm.
The corneal curvature is determined by measuring the distance
between reflected light images as in conventional keratometry.
The anterior chamber depth is determined as the distance between the
optical sections of the crystalline lens and the cornea produced by lateral
slit illumination.
"WhiteĆToĆWhite" is determined from the image of the iris.
Biometric eye measurements with the IOLMaster can be learned very
quickly without time consuming training courses.
Extensive integrated safety features ensure both the patient and
operator maximum safety when using the IOLMaster.
The software of the IOLMaster runs under Windows. The LC display
functions both in patient eye alignment as well as a results and calculaĆ
ting interface. The instrument is controlled via the joystick and computer
keyboard with integrated touchpad (mouse).
The integrated computer calculates the optimal intraocular lens on the
basis of the measured values and international calculation formulas. Five
formulas are integrated as standard.
Prior to use the data of the desired lenses must be entered into the
database.
On the basis of postoperative refraction results, the lens constants that
are entered in the calculation formulas may be individually optimized
(personalized) for every user. In doing this, the data records of patients
who had refractive surgery of the cornea should be ruled out.
