4.4 IsItUp
IsItUp is a full featured network device monitoring software application
that will monitor multiple network devices around the clock and notifies
the user via email or pager, of the status of that network device, when it
goes down, and when it comes back up. ViaSat uses IsItUp on the
Monitor Server.
IsItUp will test any TCP/IP networked device by using the ICMP
protocol. IsItUp also monitors websites by testing the server using
HTTP.
IsItUp maintains complete statistics for each network device it
monitors, up time, maximum response time, minimum response time,
standard deviation and a host of other measurements. It also tracks the
last successful and last failed Traceroute to a destination so it can
determine where the break-down occurred. This is a great feature for
tracing intermittent problems that are not caused by the system being
monitored.
A free trial version that is full featured for 30 days can be downloaded
from the Tarosoft web site. At the end of the trial period the Small
Business, Professional, or Enterprise Versions can be purchased.

Example of use:
Setup IsItUp to monitor a specific mobile terminal (VMT).
Precondition – IsItUp should already be installed on the primary IsItUp
computer.
Step 1 – Specify the VMT.
Specify the NMS name of the VMT in the Device Name field, as shown
in the screen in Figure 4-5. The NMS name is a unique name that
identifies the device to be monitored. Spaces and special characters are
allowed.
Step 2 – Specify the IP Address of the VMT.
Enter the unique IP address for the VMT to be monitored in the IP
Address field. This is the critical piece of information IsItUp needs to
monitor the availability of the VMT.
Click on "Next" to configure the notification options.
