5.4.2 Ethernet
Interfaces
The NMS front panel Ethernet interfaces are two RJ-45 GigE
10/100/1000 Base-T interfaces complying with the physical and
electrical characteristics of the IEEE 802.3 specifications, a COM1 port,
two USB ports, a VGA port for connection to the KVM switch display,
and a KB/MS port.
5.4.3 Installation
Procedures
Refer to the ArcLight Hub Installation Guide for installation and
operating specifications information. For NMS software upgrades or
downgrades please consult specific release installation instructions.
A spare NMS is provided in the ArcLight network configuration.
Currently, only a cold spare NMS is supported. In such configuration
the spare NMS is configured with same IP addresses as the primary
NMS.
5.4.4 Configuration
The operating system needs to have the following users – root, arclight
and postgres. Users can be added by using the SuSe Linux OS provided
facilities, e.g. YaST. The following directories are in use for the NMS
application software:
•
/home/arclight - is the main working directory for the NMS
software
•
/home/postgres is the main working directory of the
PostGreSQL server
The ArcLight NMS must be configured with an IP address on the main
Hub subnet, usually 10.1.1.14/24. The IP address can be configured
using standard SuSe Linux OS facilities such as YaST.
5.4.5 Operation
Refer to Section 3: Screen Descriptions for NMS Client for information
on the operation of the ABS. The application software provided by
ViaSat, Inc. can be upgraded/downgraded and otherwise maintained
using the software release specific documentation provided with each
software release.
5.4.5.1 Automatic Startup
The NMS Postgres ORDBMS and the NMS Server processes should start
automatically on every boot up. This is ensured by setting it up to run
as a service in the SuSe Linux OS YaST facility. To start the NMS Client
GUI, please double-click the NMS Client GUI desktop icon while logged
in as ‘arclight’ user.
5.4.5.2 Manual Startup
Manual startup is only necessary in cases where automatic startup
does not yield the expected operation. To manually start the NMS
application, assuming you have already started the machine:
1.
Login as user=arclight.
