Installing extended depth devices
This section provides instructions for installing devices in the 5.25-inch device bay that
are longer than standard optional devices. The following procedure demonstrates how to
install an auto loader.

If the server is in operation, shut it down. Then remove the access panel. For
detailed instructions, read steps 1 through 5 in
Maintenance overview
on page 53.

Complete one of the following steps:

If your server is equipped with an EPS power supply, proceed to step 7.
❖
If your server is equipped with an EPS-R power supply, remove the exhaust fan
module (see
Removing and replacing the primary exhaust fan
on page 60), then
go to step 3.

Remove the seven screws securing the power supply cover plate to the EPS-R cage
and server chassis.

CAUTION: Installing devices with the power on may damage the server and device.
HINT: Notice that the four screws securing the cover plate to the EPS-R cage and
the three screws securing the cover plate to the server chassis are different sizes.
