Installing software
The Toshiba Server Setup Tool (SST) is the primary tool for setting up the server. In
addition to the SST program, you will need to create the system Startup diskette. To
create this diskette, select the "Create Floppy Disk" option on the Utilities page on the
SST program. For detailed instructions on creating the Startup diskette, refer to the
Toshiba Magnia
®
3200 Server Setup Tool Manual provided on the Toshiba Server Setup
Tool CD that came with the server.
Use the Toshiba Server Setup Tool CD to install the operating system and make backup
diskettes. Use the Startup Disk to run certain SST programs and to back up your system.
The Toshiba SST provides two setup options:
❖
Simplified Setup - Automatically assigns default values for each server resource.
❖
Detailed Setup - Activates the SSU, allowing you to manually configure the server’s
resources.
After setting up the server, install the operating system, and the RAID controller software.
Turning off the server
The procedure for turning off the server depends on the operating system installed on
the server. Always perform either a normal or an automatic shutdown when turning off
the server.
Performing a normal shutdown
To perform a normal shutdown under operating systems which do not support ACPI:
1
Shut down the operating system. For instructions, refer to the user’s guide that came
with your operating system.
2
Press the power switch Off. The system will immediately power-down.
TECHNICAL NOTE: If the server is turned on through the Wake-On-LAN function
and turned off again before the Windows NT LAN driver is loaded, a startup fault
may occur the next time you attempt to start the server using the Wake-On-LAN
function. If this occurs, disconnect, then reconnect, the power cable from the AC
outlet.
