If you don’t plan to reinstall the redundant exhaust fan, install a fan bay cover plate to
protect the exposed fan slot.

Reinstall the access panel, reconnect all signal and power cables, then turn on the
server. For instructions, read steps 7 through 10 in
Maintenance overview
on page
53.
Installing the redundant exhaust fan

If the server is in operation, shut it down, then remove the access panel. For detailed
instructions, read steps 1 through 5 in
Maintenance overview
on page 53.

If you are replacing an existing redundant fan, and have already removed the fan
module from the server, proceed to step 4; otherwise, follow the procedure in
Removing the redundant exhaust fan
on page 63 before proceeding with these
steps.

If necessary, remove the screws securing the cover plate to the exhaust fan module,
then remove the cover plate.

Insert the exhaust fan module as far as it will go in the exhaust fan duct, while paying
attention to the arrow indicating the wind direction and the location of its cable.
An arrow indicating the wind direction is marked on the side of the fan module.
Installing a redundant exhaust fan
DANGER: Installing a cooling fan while the server is on could result in electric
shock, and shorten the service life of the fan and the server.
