Symantec Storage Shelf hardware removal and replacement

Cables
There are six ports on the rear panel of the Symantec Storage Shelf. Each
I/O module has three ports; one RJ11 serial port and two SAS ports.
Serial cable
Communication between your storage shelf and the Command Line Interface
(CLI) on your PC occurs via an RJ11 serial port on the rear panel of the
storage shelf. Each of the two I/O modules contains one of these ports.
You can connect a serial cable to a PC monitor and control the storage shelf.
A RJ11-to-DB9 serial cable ships with the storage shelf.
To set up a serial cable connection:
1. Attach the RJ11 end of the serial cable to the RJ11 serial connector
on the left I/O module on the rear panel of the storage shelf.
2. Attach the DB9 end of the serial cable to a serial port on the your
management PC or server.
SAS cable connection to the NetBackup 5220
The NetBackup 5220 and Symantec Storage Shelf communicate via one or
two SAS cables. These cables connect to the SAS (RAID) connectors on the
rear panel of each device. The SAS connectors are hot-pluggable. The two
devices may remain powered on when you connect them.
It is not recommended to have data programs running at this time.
Interference with running programs may cause loss of data.
Each I/O module in the storage shelf includes one SAS IN port and one SAS
OUT port. Each of these ports has one LED to indicate activity.
Note: The Symantec Storage Shelf SAS OUT port is an expansion port that is
not operational at this time.
To connect the NetBackup 5220 to the Symantec Storage Shelf:
1. Attach one end of a 4X to 4X external SAS cable to the SAS IN connector in I/O
module #1 (primary module) on the rear of the storage shelf.
