Methods for determining the distance between the camera and the reflector
The exact distance between the camera and the reflector is required in order to determine the
X and Y deflection. Two different methods for determining the distance are provided in
SIMOCRANE CenSOR:
1. Internal measurement
With internal measurement, the reflector distance is determined based on the size of the
reflector.
The following parameters must be set correctly for an accurate internal measurement:
– "Reflector size" (see CenSOR - Reflector parameters (Page 78))
- and -
– "Focal length of the lens" (see the chapter Lens (Page 99))
2. External distance
With this method, the actual value of the crane hoisting height is read in via the PROFINET or
UDP interface (see Principle of data exchange via UDP (Page 130)) and used to calculate the
distance between the camera and the reflector.
If, for example, the edge of the reflector is no longer fully visible in the image because it is too
close to the camera, the size and consequently the distance cannot be determined, and an
external distance must be transferred.
The external distance is also used to determine the expected reflector size in the image even
before the search takes place. This improves the reliability of reflector detection.
Note
No reflector detection
If external distance has been selected, the reflector is not detected if hoisting height = 0 is
entered.
The value hoisting height = 0 may not be transferred. An interruption of the communication
between SIMOCRANE CenSOR and the PLC must be avoided and must be monitored by
suitable means.
Parameterizing external distance
There is a linear correlation between the hoisting height of the crane and the distance to the
reflector measured by the camera. You can describe this correlation using the "Scale" and
"Offset" variables.
Determining "Scale" and "Offset"
Perform the following steps to determine the "Scale" and "Offset":
1. Move the hoist to position 1 (see the figure "Parameterizing external distance" below).
Make a note of the corresponding position values for the hoist of your crane at K1 and for
SIMOCRANE CenSOR MV540 H at S1.
You can read off the actual value for S1 under: "Quality values" → "CDI".
2. Move the hoist to position 2 (figure "Correlation between hoisting height and distance").
Make a note in the table of the corresponding position values for the hoist of your crane at
K2 and for SIMOCRANE CenSOR MV540 H at S2.
You can read off the actual value for S2 under: "Quality values" → "CDI".
