While an error image is being stored in the EPROM, it remains possible to operate the reader and
to control it from an automation system. Actions are delayed however since the storage of image
data in read-only memory can take a relatively long time.
Persistent storage of diagnostics entries
The following restrictions apply to storing diagnostics entries in the EPROM:
• The processing time of the currently acquired code increases by the time required to store the
diagnostics entries. The time required to store a diagnostics entry in the EPROM depends on
the ambient temperature:
– 25 ºC up to 1 ms
– 50 ºC up to 32 ms
• Operating the reader and controlling it from an automation system are possible, however
input is delayed.

Connection via Ethernet or PROFINET: Longer storage times
The storage times shown above apply only when there is no connection via Ethernet or
PROFINET. If there is such a connection, storage times are longer and they increase relative
to the network load.
