8.1.3
DAW Setup of the MIDI Mode
In the DAW, a user must configure a separate generic MIDI controller and set
it’s MIDI ports to “PreSonus FP8 MIDI Mode” and “PreSonus FP16 Port 3” for
macOS. On Windows, the MIDI port for MIDI Mode will be named “PreSonus
FP8 MIDIIN2” and “PreSonus FP8 MIDIOUT2” for the FaderPort 8, and for the
FaderPort 16, “FP16 MIDIIN3” and “FP16 MIDIOUT3”. When using Studio One
this must be setup as a “New Keyboard” device in the “External Devices” menu.
Follow the manual instructions for setting up a MIDI controller in other DAW’s.
By default, you can use the common pre-mapped MIDI CC’s messages
generated by each fader, button, or encoder for most applications.
However, by using the MIDI learn functionality of the music software, a
user can specifically link hardware controls to software parameters.

Using MIDI Mode with DAW Operating Mode
MIDI Mode can also be toggled on and off while in any of the DAW Operating
Modes. This allows you to switch between any DAW Operation Mode and MIDI
control mode at any point without having to power cycle your FaderPort.
MIDI Mode is designed to provide you with a set of controls (faders,
buttons, encoders) that are pre-assigned to MIDI CC messages
that are commonly used by composers and producers.
Additionally, most DAW and stand-alone instrument applications can also
utilize these MIDI CC messages for MIDI learn functions in these applications.
This implementation is intended to be a one-way communication from the
controller to the software. It is not necessary for the controller to receive
feedback from the software for Fader placement or LED button sync.
8.2.1
DAW Setup for MIDI Mode
To be able to toggle between MIDI mode and your DAW’s Operation Mode, you
must configure a separate generic MIDI controller and set its MIDI ports to “FaderPort
[8 or 16] MIDI Mode” (macOS) or “MIDIIN3 (FaderPort [8 or 16])” (Windows).
When using Studio One this must be set up as a “New Keyboard” device
in the “External Devices” menu. For all other DAWs, please follow the
instructions that came with your DAW to configure a new MIDI controller.
By default, you can use the common pre-mapped MIDI CC’s messages
generated by each fader, button, or encoder for most applications. However,
by using the MIDI learn functionality of your music software, you can link
hardware controls to specific software parameters of your choice.
