Lamp Troubleshooting
Some possible problems are listed below along with probable causes and suggested remedies. It is
suggested that you use this checklist before contacting PerkinElmer.
Possible Cause of Problem Check
and/or
Remedy
Lamp will not fit in
the turret
If the lamp diameter is smaller than 2
inches, it needs a special adapter.
Use the Small Lamp Adapter
Kit (P/N 0303-0870).
Lamp connector
will not fit the plug
on the instrument
If the lamp is not a Lumina lamp, it
needs an adapter.
Connect the lamp to the turret
using the non-coded lamp
adapter (P/N N305-0196 or
N305-0197).
If the lamp is not manufactured by
PerkinElmer, it may need a special
adapter cable.
Contact the lamp manufacturer
for further information.
The lamp may not be plugged into the
lamp compartment.
Connect the lamp using an
adapter cable if necessary.
Hollow cathode
lamp will not light
Instrument is off or not plugged in.
Turn instrument on or plug into
line power.
Lamp not plugged in.
Connect lamp.
Lamp worn out or damaged.
Try another lamp.
Insufficient lamp current.
Set the proper current.
EDL (Electrodeless
Discharge Lamp)
will not light
The lamp may not be connected to the
EDL power supply.
Check the lamp cable; plug it in
if it is not already.
Lamp energy value
is too low
The lamp may not be properly aligned.
Single lamp unit:
Adjust the
position of the lamp.
Instrument with Turret:
the
turret is self aligning.
The lamp may be starting to
deteriorate.
It may be possible to continue
using a hollow cathode lamp
for a short period of time by
increasing the lamp current up
to the maximum value listed on
the label on the lamp.
Otherwise, it may be necessary
to replace the lamp.

the recommended value listed
on the lamp label.
