PAN
Figure 180
When the
Connection Type
is set to
Mic
(or
Mic + Phantom
), TriCaster presents small
Pan
sliders
above each of the two
VU meters
in the
Audio 1
sub-panel. Pan adjusts
placement
of the
corresponding input sound on output channels, and progressively modulates levels in the process
so that the overall volume neither rises nor drops as a result of adjustments. Using Pan, one can
send part of channel 1 to channel 2, and vice versa.
Let’s consider an example:
When
Pan
is set to the extreme left position for
Mic 1
– audio from that input is passed
exclusively to output channel 1.
Centering the
Pan
knob ‘splits’ the sound from Mic 1 so that it is heard equally on
output channels 1 and 2. (The levels in this case are automatically reduced by 3 dB, so
that the overall level sent from Mic1 to output remains constant).
Sliding Pan for
Mic 1
all the way to the right would result in that source only being
audible on output channel 2.
Hint: “Pan” is not the same as “Balance”. The balance control for a stereo source varies the
relative level of the left and right channels, but the sound from the left channel will never come
out of the right speaker, or vice versa (Pan can do this).
