INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5
No initial combustion (starting impossible) Probable cause
The cause is probably a problem with the supply of fuel to the combustion
chambers or a malfunction of the ignition circuit. Furthermore, there is a slight
possibility that the fuel is contaminated.

Check the abnormal combustion. (Refer to P.13B-23, Code No.44.)

Contamination (water, kerosene, etc.) in the fuel
Measure at the ignition coil connectors A-74, A-94, A-97, A-98.
D Connect the connector. (Use test harness MB991658)
D Check while connecting a primary voltage detection-type
tachometer to terminal 1 of each connector.
OK:
For all terminals, the engine tachometer indication is
1/2 of the cranking speed.
OK
Check the ignition timing during cranking.
OK:
Approx. 5 _ BTDC
NG
Check that the crank angle sensor and timing belt cover are installed
properly.
OK
Measure the fuel pressure between the fuel pump (low pressure)
and the fuel pump (high pressure). (Refer to P.13B-89.)
OK
Check for fuel leaks. (Refer to P.13B-92.)
NG
Replace the fuel pump (high pressure).
OK
Can the sound of the injectors operating be heard while the engine
is cranking? (Using a soundscope)
NG
Check the injector system. (Refer to P.13B-22, Code No.41.)
