Put a light
fi
lm of grease around the inner lip of the
seal to keep it from tearing during installation.
NOTE:
Do not grease the outer lip of the seal with
grease. Use “Gasgacinch” on the outer diameter.
Evenly tap or press the seal into the hub. Use a thin
coat of “Gasgacinch” on seal outer diameter to help
installation and to aid retention when it sets up.
Insert the newly-packed bearing into the appropriate
race.
Install the front wheel bearing, thrust washer, and
castle nut. Torque the castle nut to 15 ft. lb. to seat
the wheel bearings. Then, loosen the castle nut to the
fi
rst available cross-hole that the cotter pin will push
through. The hub should rotate freely.
If the hub does not turn smoothly and freely at this
point, then back o
ff
the castle nut to the next available
cross-hole. Using a drift punch, tap the head of the
cotter pin down into the castle nut. When complete,
the head of the cotter pin should be crushed just
slightly. Fold the front half of the cotter pin over the
spindle. Reinstall the dust cover.
