Managing User Accounts
Key Facts
Flexibility
If one operator, or very few users are operating the Multi-Media unit(s) in your
organization, you may not need to create user accounts (see
).
However, in organizations with many Rapid Eye operators or units, Honeywell
recommends creating user accounts for unit operators.
Account Users
Operate Units
A Multi SA creates accounts so that personnel can operate the units. Accounts created
using LocalView can only be used onsite at the site where they were created. Accounts
created using Admin are generally used to run the View application, for connecting to one
or many units over a network or dial-up connection.
Administrator Account
Use the Administrator account to run the Admin application. Use of Admin and the
Administrator account should be limited to your organization’s Multi SA (system
administrator). Good reasons for protecting access to Admin are explained in
. The Administrator can also run the View application to
configure units.
System Password
The system password is not used by users. Authorized users do not need to know the
system password. It protects units from Admin and View users in other organizations. See
.
Using LocalView Only
Multi SAs have the option of creating user accounts, using LocalView, on a unit-by-unit
basis. This is convenient when your organization has very few units and users.
Before Creating User Accounts
Preparation Using Admin
At this point, a Multi System Administrator (Multi SA) using Admin software has:
•
Obtained or created a Multi database. See
•
Created at least one site. You can create accounts without an existing site, but users
won’t be able to do much more than open View. See
•
Added a password to the Administrator account. This is highly recommended by
Honeywell, but is optional. See
.
