configure mpls health-check add vplsping
config mpls health-check add vplsping <vpls_name> [peer <ipaddress> |
mac-address <macaddress>] {interval-time <seconds>} {trap-send-holdtime
<seconds>}
Description
Configures a VPLS VC-LSP service connectivity health-check.
Syntax Description
Default
N/A.
Usage Guidelines
This command configures a VPLS VC-LSP service connectivity health-check. The healthcheck command
can be used to configure recurring VC-LSP connectivity checks. If VC-LSP connectivity is lost, a trap is
sent to alert management stations of a possible service failure and an error message is logged.
Connectivity is verified by sending a VPLS ping packet. Up to 256 vplsping health-checks may be
configured.
Ping packets are sent at the rate specified by the
interval-time
. If an echo response is not received
within
trap-send-holdtime
seconds after the
interval-time
ping was sent, service connectivity is
considered down and an error message is logged and a trap message may be sent. The valid
interval-time range
is 10 to 600 seconds with a default value of 60 seconds. The valid
trap-send-holdtime
range is 3 to 30 seconds with a default value of 10 seconds and must be less that
the
interval-time
. Ping packets may be dropped due to spurious network conditions. In order to
minimize service disconnect "false alerts", when an echo request has not been received within
trap-send-holdtime
/3 seconds, echo requests are sent in rapid succession at a rate of one per second.
This operation continues until an echo response is received or the trap-send-holdtime expires. If an echo
response is received before the
trap-send-holdtime
expires, the rapid sending of echo requests is
immediately stopped and the service is deemed connected.
Specifying the VPLS node address configures the VPLS health-check to a VPLS node. The VPLS node
can be specified using the
peer
or
mac-address
keyword. When the peer's
ipaddress
is specified, the
IP address is used to look up the corresponding VPLS node's MAC address. If the MAC address has not
been learned, the
health-check
keyword will fail with a "No MAC address learned for IP address"
error. The mac-address keyword specifies the target VPLS node or a customer MAC address. The
macaddress parameter must be a unicast MAC address and is specified as a colon separated list of six
bytes in hex format.
vpls_name
Identifies the VPLS within the switch (character string)
ipaddress
Option for specifying the health check.
mac-address
Option for specifying the health check.
interval-time
Determines the rate at which ping packets are sent.
trap-send-holdtime
Specifies the interval after interval-time when service connectivity is
considered down if there is no echo response.
