vplstrace
vplstrace <vpls_name> [<ipaddress> | mac-address <macaddress>]{next-hop
[<ipaddress> | <host_name>]} {ping-address <ipaddress>} {reply-mode [ip |
mpls | vpls]} {ttl <max_ttl_value>} {detail}
Description
Traces the path a packet takes to another VPLS node, or to a specific destination MAC address.
Syntax Description
Default
N/A.
Usage Guidelines
This command traces the path a packet with a specific destination MAC address takes through the
H-VPLS network for vpls_name. The vplstrace command works by sending a VPLS Ping or VPLS echo
request (i.e., MPLS echo request for a VC-FEC in-band over the H-VPLS network). The TTL value in the
VC-FEC label is initially set to 1. The TTL value is incremented for each successive VPLS echo request
sent. The sending node waits 5 seconds before sending the next VPLS echo request. This operation
continues until the egress VPLS node for the L2 VPN Prefix VC-FEC is reached, the maximum TTL
value is reached, or the operation is interrupted. For each response received, the following information
is displayed on the console: MAC address of the replying H-VPLS node, IP address of node (if known),
return code, and an indication of a VPLS echo reply timeout if no response was received.
The VPLS node can be specified using the
ipaddress
parameter. When the
ipaddress
parameter is
specified, the IP address is used to look up the corresponding VPLS node's MAC address. If the MAC
address has not been learned, the vplstrace command will fail with a "No MAC address learned for IP
address" error. The
mac-address
keyword specifies the MAC address that is being "pinged". The
mac-address may represent the MAC address of a VPLS node or a customer MAC address. The
macaddress parameter must be a unicast MAC address and is specified as a colon separated list of six
bytes in hex format. The specified or learned MAC address is copied into the destination MAC address
field of the VPLS echo request and is included in the L2-VPN Prefix Target FEC TLV.
The optional
reply-mode
keyword is used to specify the return path for the VPLS echo response. When
the
ip
option is specified, the VPLS echo reply is routed back to the sender, specified in the L2 VPN
ipaddress
Determines whether the IP address is used to look up the corresponding
VPLS node's MAC address.
macaddress
Specifies the MAC address being “pinged.”
ipaddress
Specifies the source IP address in the MPLS echo request.
ip
Routes back to the sender as specified in the L2 VPN Prefix sub-TLV, via an
IPv4 packet with the IP Router Alert option.
mpls
Routes back to the sender over an MPLS LSP.
vpls
Determines if the VPLS echo reply is switched in-band back to the sender via
a VPLS encapsulated IPv4 packet.
max_ttl_value
Specifies the maximum TTL value in the VPLS echo request packet.
