In addition to continuity, the TIA-568 also specifies which pins are
associated with specific wire pairs in the cable. When pin-to-pin continuity
is maintained, but the proper pairs are not, the wiring error is called a Split
Pair. A Split Pair causes severe Near-End Crosstalk (NEXT).
Figure 8-4 illustrates an example of a split pair where pins 1 and 2 are split
with 3 and 6.
