CHAPTER 13: Talk and Test Modules for the SCAN-LAN VI

NDEX OF

EFRACTION

Set the Index of Refraction (IOR) each time you test a cable from a different
manufacturer or spool.

Attach the launch cables to TX (transmit) and RX (receive) ports on each handset
as shown in

Section 13.5

. Note that TX on one unit connects to RX on the other.

• Set the Main Unit dial to CAL.

• Highlight

IOR

with the

↑↓

keys.

• Press CALIBRATE (F4).

You can use system-default IOR settings, manually input new settings, or calculate
the correct IOR based on a known length of cable.

• Press DEFAULT (F4) to use the default settings, or

• Press DEC (F2) or INC (F3) to manually change the IOR setting, or

• To set IOR based on a known length of cable: Connect a cable of known

length to TX and RX on the main unit.
