N O T E
If the termination voltage is wrongly adjusted or the output ports are not connected,
an internal protection algorithm automatically sets the output voltage levels to safe
levels. Connect the output ports or change the termination voltage before adjusting
the output levels.

Controlling the N4916A De-Emphasis Signal Converter
After the N4916A has been installed and physically connected to the
Serial BERT and the DUT (see
“Installing the N4916A - Procedure” on
), do the following:

In the
PG Setup
menu press
PG Output Setup
to access the
PG Output
Setup
window.

Set the desired output levels and termination as described in or enter
custom levels as described in
“Adjust Output Levels (optional)” on
.

Press
De-Emphasis
to open the
De-Emphasis Connection
dialog window.

Press
Connect
to activate the connection between the Serial BERT
and the N4916A.
If you get an error message, refer to

N O T E
Once you have connected the pattern generator to the N4916A De-Emphasis Signal
Converter, the Output Levels and Termination shown on the screen refer to the
outputs of the N4916A.
Check the indicated signal levels. The output voltage range of the N4916A is lower
than the range of the Serial BERT. The N4916A is first of all meant for low voltage
amplitudes. If the N4916A cannot generate the specified signal voltages, they are
reduced to safe levels. If this happens, you need to change the levels or the
termination.
