automatically adjust for voltages between 100VAC and 240VAC but
appropriately rated fuses must be installed. Use 5 x 20mm, 250V,
time delay (Type T) fuses. For 100-130V operation, use 5-Amp
fuses; for 200-240V operation use 2.5-Amp fuses.
Re-install the fuse holder into the back of the instrument and close
the fuse holder door.
If you intend to connect the instrument to a new or different power
outlet, you should first have the outlet ground checked as instructed
in Chapter 1 before re-connecting the instrument power cord.
Re-connect the power cord and switch the power switch to the on
(
I
) position. The instrument should follow the power-up sequence
described in Chapter 1.
3. Sample Probe Checks
Glass-tipped probes are very sensitive and quick to respond but are
somewhat susceptible to pushing, pulling and bumping damage.
Such damage often causes varying electrical leakage to ground
through the sample and may usually be detected via close visual
inspection or disconnecting the connector and checking the probe
resistance. This can be done in place without disturbing the physical
adjustment of the probe.
The following procedure is recommended for testing and/or replac-
ing the sample probe (please refer to figure 8 for the locations of the
parts named in this procedure):
a. Turn the 4C3 power off and disconnect it from the power
source.
b. Remove 8 screws from the periphery of the back cover of the
instrument and lift it off of the instrument. As you lift off the
back cover, unplug the fan connector.
c. Locate and unplug the sample probe connector (see figure 8).
The probe leads are electrically accessible through the side slots
in the connector. Use care not to touch or bend the connector
pins. Soil or salt from your fingers can increase the electrical
