Glossary
setup mode A press operating mode that enables the press to be run in Inch without
generating low setpoint or repeatability faults. With this setting enabled,
AutoSetPAC disables low and repeatability setpoints whenever the press is
operated in Inch.
startup counter The number of strokes to allow after startup of the press before AutoSetPAC
begins to monitor tonnage or calculate setpoints. During the period defined
by the specified number of strokes, AutoSetPAC disables high, low, and
repeatability setpoints and suspends calculation of setpoints. AutoSetPAC
provides 120%- of-press-capacity protection during this startup period.
The startup counter is used primarily to allow high-speed presses to come up
to speed before AutoSetPAC begins to monitor tonnage. It is also used to
allow press tonnage to stabilize before calculating setpoints.
tonnage fault A press shutdown initiated by AutoSetPAC because tonnage has fluctuated
enough to exceed the high, low, repeatability, or reverse setpoint. A fault
may be caused by a stuck part, significant change in material thickness or
hardness, slug stacking, load imbalance, misfeed, broken punch, end of
stock, or any die malfunctions.
zero cam A closure-to-ground signal that turns on at approximately 240° and turns off
at 30°. The zero cam signal “zeroes,” or clears, the tonnage reading on each
stroke and prevents AutoSetPAC from registering tonnage events within the
zero cam window. Zero cam ensures that AutoSetPAC records only tonnage
that occurs at the bottom of the stroke.
