Troubleshooting Common AutoSetPAC Problems

The following sections show you how to troubleshoot problems you may encounter as you run the

press with AutoSetPAC.

Tonnage/WaveForm Menu Option Does Not Display at Power-up (Communications Error)

Verify that the AutoSetPAC processor board has power by testing both sides of fuse F102 (see

Figure 2-6, page 37, or Figure 2-7, page 38). If power is not present, check AC wiring, referring

Connecting AC and Stop Circuit Wiring

, page 36.

Verify that the SmartPAC and AutoSetPAC boards are communicating by checking the Tx

(DS106) and Rx (DS107) LEDs on the AutoSetPAC processor board (see Figure 2-6, page 37, or

Figure 2-7, page 38). If the LEDs are blinking alternately, the two boards are communicating.

If the LEDs are unlit, the boards are not communicating. Check communications wiring, referring

Connecting Communications Wiring to SmartPAC 2 or SmartPAC PRO,

page 50.

Verify that the resolver is wired correctly to the SmartPAC processor board (refer to Chapter

2 in the SmartPAC manual) and that strain links are mounted properly and wired correctly to

the AutoSetPAC board (refer to

Installing Strain Links

, page 41). To do so, perform the

following procedures:

Turn off power to SmartPAC and AutoSetPAC.

Remove the resolver connector (TB101) from the SmartPAC board and all strain link

connectors (TB105 and TB106 on 2-channel AutoSetPACs, TB105, TB106, TB107, and

TB108 on 4-channel units) from the AutoSetPAC board.

Power the SmartPAC and AutoSetPAC back up, and see if communications is resumed (i.e.,

the TONNAGE/WAVEFORM menu item displays).

If SmartPAC and AutoSetPAC are now communicating properly, perform the following steps

in sequence to isolate the specific wiring connection at fault:

•

Plug the resolver connector back into its socket on the SmartPAC board, and power up

the units again. If communications are good, go to the next step. Otherwise, check the

resolver wiring, referring to Chapter 2 in your SmartPAC manual. If wiring is good, go to

the next step. If there is a wiring problem, correct it and go to the next step.

•

Plug the strain link connectors back into their sockets on the AutoSetPAC board, one at a

time, starting with the “Left” connector for a 2-input AutoSetPAC or “Left Front”

connector for a 4-input system. Power the units back up. If communications are good, go

to the next step. Otherwise, check the wiring for that strain link, referring to

Wiring

, page 46. If wiring is good, go to the next step. If there is a wiring problem,

correct it and go to the next step.

•

Plug the “Right” (2-input AutoSetPAC) or “Right Front” (4-input unit) connector back

into its socket on the AutoSetPAC processor board. Power the units back up. If

communications are good, go to the next step. Otherwise, check the wiring for that strain

link. If wiring is good, go to the next step. If there is a wiring problem, correct it and go

to the next step.
