Chapter 3 Initialization and Calibration

If SmartPAC and AutoSetPAC are communicating normally, you should expect to see data in both

the “TRANSMIT BUFFER DATA” and “RECEIVE BUFFER DATA” portions of the screen. If you

do not see any data (or only partial data), this means that SmartPAC and AutoSetPAC are not

communicating properly.
If there is a communications problem, you may decide to perform a loopback test. In a loopback test,

you connect (or jumper) the TXD (Transmit) and RXD (Receive) lines (refer to Figure 3 at the end of

this manual), and then press F1 to check communications. In effect, you are “receiving” the

communications data that you are transmitting.
This test is useful when verifying the accuracy of the transmit and receive hardware and wiring. If

you need help performing the loopback test, contact Wintriss Tech. Support.

Calibrating AutoSetPAC

This section shows you how to calibrate an AutoSetPAC load analyzer so that it displays an accurate

reading of the tonnage applied by the press. You learn how to do the following:
1.

Adjust each strain link until it provides a “zero” signal with no load on the press, following the

instructions in

Zeroing Strain Links

, page 73.

Using a separate tonnage monitor and one or two load cells, apply a load to the press and measure

it, following the instructions in

Recording Tonnage on an AutoSet Calibration Kit

, page 77. You

can use your own calibration gear, or rent an AutoSet 2-Channel calibration kit from Wintriss.

Determine the tonnage capacity of your press, and set the full-scale tonnage of your AutoSetPAC

to that value, following the instructions in

Setting Full-scale Tonnage on Your AutoSetPAC

, page

85.

Adjust your AutoSetPAC until its tonnage displays agree with the tonnage recorded on your

calibration unit, following the instructions in Adjusting AutoSetPAC To Read the Correct

Tonnage, page 87.
