artwork consists mainly of sharp edges, then a higher Corner setting would be preferred. A
lower value will result in more rounding of corners. Note that too high a value will cause the
software to make sharp edges out of some round shapes such as circles. This can be
corrected with the graphic editing tools if needed. Again, experiment to determine the best
value for your artwork.
Speckle Filter:
This value tells the software to ignore small speckles in the original
bitmap file. Larger numbers are entered to ignore larger spots. Too large a value could
cause the software to ignore details in the original logo. The default value of 8 pixels is
usually OK.
Snap Long Lines to Vertical/Horizontal:
This value is used to force lines that are
“almost” vertical or horizontal to be so. This can be used to help compensate for artwork
that was not exactly straight in the scanner and to help make lines that should be parallel in
horizontal or vertical plane line up properly. If your artwork does not have edges that should
be exactly horizontal or vertical then you should turn this value off or set it to a lower value.
One side effect of this entry is that it can “flatten” the top, bottom, and sides of circular
shapes since these portions of the circles are within the threshold of the command. You
might have to correct these edges with the graphic editing commands.
Small Shape Accuracy:
This entry is supposed to ensure that very small detail
items in the artwork are traced correctly. The down side to this command is that small detail
shapes are traced with a VERY HIGH control point density. Typically, this value is set to off,
1 or 2.
If you find a set of values that gives good results for the trace you should save these values
under a unique name in the setting list to make it easy to reuse. To do this just highlight the
list name in the Setup section and type in the desired list name. Click on the Save button to
save the settings and add the entry to the list. You will then be able to call up the settings at
any time as required.
If you do not save the settings, then Vision Pro will add an entry to the list called “Current
Settings” with the values entered. You can select this entry and use it just like any other
setting in the list. To be sure to keep the settings that you want, you should save them
under a unique name.
When you have adjusted the trace settings you are now ready to run the trace. The
software will outline all the black areas in the artwork. If desired, you can limit the area that
will be traced by using one of the selection tool shapes that are available from the upper left
corner of the Vectorization toolbar. Choose one of the selection tool types and draw a
boundary around the portion of the image you wish to trace before running the conversion.
The icons representing the possible choices are shown below:
The first (selected) choice is the entire bitmap image. The next choice is an elliptical
selection region, the third is a rectangular selection region, and the last is a lasso or
freehand selection region. For all except the default entire region selection, you will use the
mouse to define the area to be traced.
Click on the Vectorization icon
to actually run the trace. Vision Pro will outline all
edges in the selected area (or the entire bitmap image if nothing is selected) in the
