The basic steps required to create a multiple plate job in Vision Pro include:
1) Create the original single plate layout of the job you wish to duplicate.
2) Select the entire job and select the Multiple Plate option
3) Enter the multiple plate options such as the material size, number of copies, desired
margins, and text to merge in the Multiple Setup dialog.
4) If merging text, enter the text on the Text Substitution screen or review the text if read
from a file.
5) Review the multiple plate layout on screen and engrave the job.
Creating the Template File
Before you can create a multiple plate job, you must create a layout of the job you wish to
duplicate. Any valid layout can be run as a multiple plate job, either with multiple plates on a
single sheet of material (if the engraving table is large enough) or as a batch multiple, where
multiple copies are arranged to engrave one at a time.
There are several items that you must keep in mind when creating a layout to be used to
create multiple plates:
·
Any text created with an outline font that is to be merged with unique information on each
plate should not be filled until all the plates are created. If you fill the text from the original
layout, that fill will be duplicated onto each plate, which will not match the new text on each
plate. Any text that will not be changing on each plate can be filled as usual.
·
If you are using the ADA Grade II Braille translator, you should not convert the Braille text
until all the plates are created. The Braille will not be converted properly on the fly by the
text substitution feature.
·
If you are planning to merge text with many characters, you should use the frame text
mode when creating the original layout. Otherwise you will have to look at the plates after
they have been created and manually condense text that extended beyond the individual
plate borders.
·
While only text can be merged from a separate file when creating multiple plates, the
resulting job containing the multiple plates can be edited as any other job. This allows you
to significantly change certain plates on the screen, including changing the font selection
and changing graphic elements as desired. All normal editing can be done on any plates
in the job after the multiples have been created.
·
If you are creating a layout that will require more than one cutting tool, assign unique
colors to each portion of the job that will be engraved with a particular cutter before you
create the multiple plate job. The multiple function will carry the color assignments to each
plate you create. Note that you might need to ungroup a paragraph of text if it was typed
in to the original layout as a single object. Before you can assign individual colors to
different portions of the layout.
