Controlling the UDMR with MIDI signals

Connecting to external MIDI devices via MMC/MSC
Definition of MMC & MSC
MMC (MIDI Machine Control)
A subset of the MIDI protocol stipulating specific commands
for the integrated control of multiple MIDI devices from a single
device. In addition to song playback, stop and fast forward,
MMC can also be used to select tracks for recording simply by
operating the master device. In order to use MMC, the other
devices must support MMC remote operation.
Remote operations such as stopping phrase record and
playback can be performed with the UDMR by receiving MMC
signals from a hard disk recorder etc.
MSC (MIDI Show Control)
A MIDI data standard stipulating specific commands for the
MIDI control of various performance equipment such as stage
and visual devices. MSC can be used for operations such as
playback and stop from the master device. In order to use this
standard, the other devices must be MSC compatible.
MSC commands can be used with the UDMR (as a slave
device) to commence and terminate playback of phrases as
desired. They can also be used with the UDMR (as a master
device) to send playback and stop commands.
Refer to 'MIDI Implementation' (p.99) for details on MMC/MSC
messages supported by the UDMR.
Connecting external devices
The UDMR can be used either as an MMC/MSC master or
slave device.
In the connection example below, the UDMR is used as a
slave device.
MMC/MSC-compatible device
When synchronizing the UDMR with the audio of a hard disk
recorder, the unit can be controlled via operation of said
recorder.
When an operation is performed on the master device, the
same (or corresponding) operation is performed on the slave
device.
